Each of her subjects receives a page spread filled photographs, most of them by Loy, and interesting information about how then subject came to be a chocolatier, cheesemaker, (female) Lobsterman, kite designer, robotics engineer, alpaca farmer or percussionist. This is a great one to talk over with your child or a group of children.
Full disclosure: When I Grow Up includes one of my photographs, in the section on Junkman (percussionist) Donald Knaack.
The other book is
Mr. Lincoln's Gift is a historical picture book about a previously unknown incident in Lincoln's life, one that gives further insight into this man's integrity and greatness. It sheds more light on the different ways the Civil War divided this country. It provides a bit of history about the art in our nation's capital while showing several ways in which artists play a role in society. It is has been published by Hildene, known as "a Lincoln family home" because it was the property of Robert Todd Lincoln.
Full disclosure: I reviewed this book at the request of Hildene and a blurb from my review is part of their pr for the book.
