Revisions redux

I managed to get two or three (depends on how you count) chapters of my novel revised today. That means I've only got three, maybe four, to go before I've met my goal of finishing these revisions by the end of the month.  {happy dance, happy dance}

What's left includes inserting a whole new scene, which may be a bit of a challenge, but I think I'm up for it.

Then I'll have to print it out and take a day to read the whole thing through to make sure I've taken out all references to a character who is no longer there and tie up any other loose ends that seem to happen when I revise.

This is the point at which I enjoy revisions--at least for me. I like first drafts and finding out what exactly the story is, (I am so completely not an outliner), but revisions like this are a real pleasure.

What do you think? Do you prefer first drafts or revisions?

Miss Rumphius's Effect

Miss Rumphius has a great poetry stretch this week (Thanks to Laura Salas for pointing me in that direction--her haiku is great!)

Here's what I came up with--not inspired, but a haiku nonetheless.

Poking from pebbles

see, one blossom can survive

on a dry mountain.
